Encouraging initiative

Many countries in which PH Zurich’s Department for International Projects in Education is active would like to offer their students lessons that not only promote the acquisition of knowledge and skills, but also encourages personal initiative. Those who already learn at school how to acquire knowledge in an active, constructive and self-directed manner will benefit from this in their adult lives.

In the projects of the Department IPE, competence-oriented teaching and learning is given high priority. Students and teachers are trained accordingly. In this context, teaching and learning means acquiring and passing on knowledge and skills while incorporating one’s own values and experiences.

As part of an international project, experts from PH Zurich currently support the development of online modules for teacher training in Mali. The goal is to enable new and current teachers to educate in the mother tongues of their pupils.

Chance for ChildrenA Swiss-Ghanaian partnership to improve access to education

As part of a long-standing project, PH Zurich staff regularly conduct trainings for the Ghanaian NPO Chance for Children. This type of international collaboration is essential for the ongoing effort to provide every child with access to education.

Also lecturers at universities of teacher education never stop learning. In this spirit, PH Zurich has collaborated over the past four years with universities in Armenia, Georgia, and Moldova to strengthen pedagogical and didactic competences in teacher training and continuing education.

Teaching materials adapted to curricula

The Department for International Projects in Education at PH Zurich has many years of experience in developing teaching materials that are adapted to the curriculum of a partner country. The teaching materials produced within the scope of a project are developed in collaboration with local education experts. These may be physical or digital handouts, or materials aimed at teaching staff and/or students at universities of teacher education, at teachers or directly at school pupils.
