Principles of open science
Open science follows the basic principles of openness, transparency and reusability in all phases of education and research. Through open access to scientific publications and the sharing of research data (open research data) and learning materials (open educational resources), open science aims to make knowledge accessible within and outside the scientific community. Open science is thus part of modern research practice.
Implementation at PH Zurich
At PH Zurich, open science is actively promoted, implemented and continuously developed through a combination of services, tools and measures.
As part of open access at PH Zurich, the library is actively involved in the implementation of the national open access strategy. The most important tools include the PHZH Repository and the Institutional Open Access Fund (iOAF). In close collaboration with the offices of the various vice rectors, the library is continually working on expanding the OA infrastructure and the service portfolio for lecturers and research associates as required.
With the recently completed PgB project “Implementation of Open Research Data at PH Zurich” (2023–2025), fundamental framework conditions for the implementation of Open Research Data (ORD) at PH Zurich were created. The project clarified central questions regarding the publication of research data and established corresponding principles. In close exchange with researchers, the opportunities and challenges were identified, evaluated, and consolidated. The project was funded as part of the national ORD strategy by swissuniversities. Even after the project’s conclusion, the Research & Development Office remains committed to implementing the national ORD strategy.
