The collaborative doctoral programme in subject-specific education and teaching in the arts is guided by a basic understanding of subject-specific education as a science of teaching and action, which further develops its core subject, namely teaching and educational practice, through practice-based research. This basic understanding is coupled with a subject-oriented openness with regard to methods, methodologies and theoretical references, as well as the requirement for a long-term link between research and teaching practice in the doctoral projects pursued within the programme framework.
