PH Zurich’s website should be accessible to as many people as possible. The university is constantly working on removing any obstacles for people with disabilities. You can find out more about the status of these efforts here.

Content of this page

PH Zurich strives to make its website (phzh.ch) accessible to as many people as possible. This applies to all content that appears on the PH Zurich website. The accessibility statement sets out the extent to which this is already the case, where obstacles still exist and which areas cannot be made accessible and for what reasons.

Standards and guidelines

PH Zurich is guided by the following (Swiss and international) accessibility standards:

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers, developers, content editors and other professionals to make digital content more accessible to people with disabilities. Three levels of conformance are defined: A, AA and AAA.

The Swiss Accessibility Standard eCH-0059 references the WCAG and even exceeds the scope thereof in certain areas.

Limitations

PH Zurich’s website partially meets the above standards.

Despite efforts to make the PHZH website as accessible as possible, there may still be some limitations, of which you will find an overview below. Feel free to get in touch with us if you notice an issue that is not listed here.

  • Many PDF documents are not accessible.
  • Many videos lack subtitles. All videos lack audio description and translation into sign language.
  • In many cases, (external) content integrated via iFrame is not accessible.
  • Some images and graphics do not contain sufficient alternative text. Many complex graphics do not contain an alternative to the visual representation.
  • There is no content in simple or plain language.
  • Some components integrated by external providers are not accessible, such as the podcast integration.
  • The default language is not fully observed on some pages; sometimes several languages are used on one page.
  • A few pages cannot be found through several navigation types (e.g. search and menu structure).
  • There may be animated graphics that cannot be hidden, paused or stopped.
  • Some tables only have column headings, even though row headings would also be necessary (and vice versa).
  • Some tables contain empty cells. This means that assistive technologies can’t read (linearise) the tables correctly.

The accessibility of the PH Zurich website is frequently reviewed.

Further development

Necessary adjustments are made to the code of the website.

Content structure

Content that is structured incorrectly (text, lists, tables) is amended on an ongoing basis.

Images and graphics

With pictures and graphics, meaningful alternative texts and, where necessary, alternatives to the visual representation are added.

Embedded content

The accessibility of content from external sources that is integrated via iFrame or a single-page application is frequently reviewed. In the longer term, overall less use of iFrames and non-accessible content within it is the goal.

Videos

New videos have subtitles.

PDF documents

The aim is to make the most frequently downloaded PDF documents accessible.
