Teacher training for the primary level

Primary teachers work with pupils in Years 1 to 6 of primary school and impart knowledge in a wide range of subjects. A course of study at PH Zurich provides the practical and theoretical knowledge required to obtain a teaching diploma for primary level.
Content of this page
Primary school in Switzerland spans six years and is divided into the lower primary level (years 1 to 3) and the upper primary level (years 4 to 6). Primary pupils learn the basics of German, mathematics and eight other subjects.
No specialist teachers are trained for individual subjects at the primary level; instead, teachers of a class acquire accreditation to teach at least seven subjects.
The Primary Degree Programme can be completed full-time or part-time. A course of study is also available for students who are changing careers.
