The collaborative doctoral programme in educational research in the professional field (BiB) is a joint initiative of PH Zurich and Karlsruhe University of Education. The doctorates are awarded by Karlsruhe University of Education. The programme is aimed at doctoral students whose work has a strong connection to educational practice. The aim of BiB is to qualify, network and support researchers with close ties to the professional field to meet the special requirements of practice-based research. It is structured across two levels:

A doctoral programme to provide a structured framework
A network to provide space for academic exchange

The doctoral programme provides a structured framework for doctoral projects with a strong connection to the professional field. The planned programme components include:

Collaborative supervision by staff from PH Zurich and Karlsruhe University of Education
Qualification programmes focusing on methodological and practical challenges in applied educational research
Integration into an academic network through colloquia, workshops and inter-university formats with experienced researchers and peers
Support for academic networking through conference visits, research stays or peer visits

The BiB network offers a space for peer-to-peer exchange and joint scientific initiatives by researchers at all qualification levels. It is open to all researchers who deal with the diverse methodological, epistemological, educational policy or practical issues of educational research with practical application.
