Two years after starting pre-primary education, children move on to lower primary education for three years. Graduates of this programme are qualified to teach all educational subjects at the pre-primary and lower primary levels (except English).
Pre-primary and lower primary pupils are exposed to a unique way of learning through play and experimentation. The pre-primary and lower primary degree programme trains teachers to tap into children’s natural abilities at these stages, and to design a range of learning opportunities that incorporate play and learning by doing while simultaneously preparing pupils for the transitions they will need to make.
No specialist teachers are trained for individual subjects at the pre-primary and lower primary levels; instead, teachers of a class are qualified to teach in all areas of pre-primary education and all subjects from the first to third year of primary school, with the exception of English, which is taught from the second year of primary school.
The Pre-Primary and Early-Primary Degree Programme can be completed full-time or part-time. A course of study is also available for students who are changing careers.
