Description
DEEP “Data- and Algorithmic Literacy” is a translational measure of the DEEP-Coordination-Office designed to empower teacher educators to adopt a critical and reflective approach to digital technologies and to pass this knowledge on to future teachers. To accomplish this, the project involves synthesising existing research on data and algorithmic literacy, structuring and refining the findings, and designing a corresponding educational program.
Research and analysis
Literature review with a focus on the following areas
- Algorithmic systems and AI in education, including risks of discrimination against social groups and strategies for prevention
- Challenges related to the use of generative AI and machine learning models
- Data-driven educational processes, with a focus on critical perspectives on learning analytics
- Educational equity in digital learning, particularly the role of teachers in digital contexts and the impact of digital learning environments on student success
Structuring and feedback
Consolidation and systematisation of the research findings through:
- Expert interviews and workshops within the DEEP community to validate and contextualise results
- Definition of educational objectives for data and algorithmic literacy tailored to the target group
Programme development
Design of a scientifically grounded and target group-specific educational programme:
- Identification of existing skills and development needs in data and algorithmic literacy among teacher educators
- Development of a higher education teaching programme that integrates the research findings and meets the practical needs of the target group
