Description

The beginning of university life is a significant challenge for many, involving not just learning but also adapting to the academic environment. Research focuses on how students navigate this transition and how first-semester experiences influence further academic success. Both student characteristics such as self-regulation and motivation, as well as institutional support from the university, are influencial in this process. Against the backdrop of a more diverse student body, this project explores the specifics of profession-oriented study programs in Switzerland. Study programs in teacher education or health professions differ from academically oriented bachelor programs in that students have strong professional motivation, the programs often include longer internship phases, and the teaching formats also promote profession-oriented competencies. In this context, the project investigates how freshmen experience these challenges and what they need to be successful.
