About

Sarah Joy Hess has worked as a Junior Researcher at the Centre for Education and Digital Transformation and in teacher education at the Zurich University of Teacher Education (PHZH) since 2025. She is also a team member of the Swiss Centre for Responsible AI (SCRAI).

Prior to this, she worked as a primary school teacher at schools in the Canton of Zurich (2019–2025). She completed her Bachelor's degree in Primary Education at PHZH (2017–2020). In 2022, she completed her training as a mentor teacher. In 2025, she completed her Master's degree in Media and Computer Science Education at the University of Teacher Education Schwyz (PHSZ), a joint degree program with UZH, HSLU, and PHLU.

Since September 2026, she has also worked as a doctoral candidate at the Chair of Educational Technologies, Institute of Education, University of Zurich, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Thomas Schmalfeldt (PHZH) and Prof. Dr. Sascha Schneider (UZH). Her dissertation investigates which conditions for school-level innovation and implementation processes contribute to teachers' use of artificial intelligence in the classroom.
