About

Felizitas Juen is currently working as a team member of the Doctoral Programme «Educational research in the professional field (BiB)». She is a member of the organizing committee for the final conference of the project Parental Engagement in the Context of Educational Childhoods: Formation and Negotiation Strategies in Families with a Migration Background (ELEN) | PHZH.

From 2022 to 2025, she was a PhD researcher in the SNF-funded research project Negotiating naturechildhoods. A Common Worlds Ethnography in Swiss Kindergartens of the Anthropocene, exploring more-than-human-relations in Swiss kindergartens. Currently, she is engaged in the process of writing her doctoral thesis from this project with the working title “Unraveling NatureChildhoods with Young Humans and More-than-humans: Entangled Ethnographic Explorations based on Karen Barad’s Agential Realism” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ina Dietzsch in the Department of Empirical Cultural Studies at the University of Marburg.

Felizitas Juen graduated from the Zurich University of Teacher Education in 2008 (B.A. Pre-Primary Education) and worked as a kindergarten teacher in Switzerland for nine years.

From 2017 to 2020, she studied Empirical Cultural Studies and Sociology in Freiburg im Breisgau, with a Bachelor’s thesis on non-human and human agency in atmospheres of a Freiburg apartment building.

During her subsequent Master’s degree in Empirical Cultural Studies, her Master’s thesis in 2023 investigated clothing in the forest kindergarten, which interwove parenting, childhood and clothing research.

Focus on research, teaching, services

Inspired by Science and Technology Studies and Feminist Theories, she is interested in human-nonhuman relations (ANT, New Materialism) regarding objects, environments and animals from an empirical cultural studies perspective. She examines power relations, negotiations and ruptures from an ethnographic perspective.

Teaching: Summer Term 2025, University Marburg, Institut für Empirische Kulturwissenschaft, Block course “HumAnimal – Exploring Multispecies Relations through Posthumanist Perspectives”
