About

The research and teaching focus on climate change education, education for sustainable development, science and social studies education, and teacher education. Petra Breitenmoser is particularly interested in how pre-service and in-service teachers can address controversial sustainability issues in scientifically informed, action-oriented, and democratically grounded ways.

Petra Breitenmoser is a Senior Lecturer in the Didactics of Natural and Social Sciences (“NMG”) at the Zurich University of Teacher Education (PH Zürich) since 2013. She is also a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Education of the University of Zurich at the Chair of Didactics of Science and Sustainability. Previously, from 2013 to 2019, she was head of the Nature, Man, Society department at the PH Zürich.

She received her primary school teaching certificate in 2001, a Master’s degree in Geography from the University of Zurich (2003–2009), an Honours degree in Antarctic and Southern Ocean Studies from the University of Tasmania (2007/2008) and a PhD in Climate Science from University of Bern in 2013. She also completed a CAS in Leadership at the University of St. Gallen in 2017.
