Designation : Two new professors
In a small ceremony, Rector Heinz Rhyn presented the certificates from the UAS Council to the new professors at PH Zurich. PH Zurich congratulates the two professors on their appointment and looks forward to working together.
Stefan Keller
Stefan Keller was appointed Professor for Subject-Specific Education and Head of Department for Research on Subject-Specific Education at PH Zurich. Keller received his doctorate in English at the University of Zurich. He qualified as a Professor of English Language Education at the University of Giessen on the subject of process-oriented writing education at the secondary level. In 2023, he completed his professorship at the University of Zurich with the venia legendi “Foreign Languages Education”. Stefan Keller’s research focuses on the development and measurement of writing skills, the diagnostic skills of teachers and the quality of teaching in different subjects and at different school levels.
Thomas Schmalfeldt
Thomas Schmalfeldt has been appointed Professor of Computer Science Education at the Centre for Education and Digital Transformation at PH Zurich. During his doctorate at ETH Zurich, he studied the consequences of digitalisation on the architectural design of sound. Before moving to the mathematics division at PH Zurich in 2005, he worked as a secondary teacher in Schaffhausen for 10 years. In 2018, he was commissioned to develop the training for computer science teachers at secondary school level. In addition to teaching at PH Zurich, Thomas Schmalfeldt conducts research on intelligent tutors, feedback support and the interfaces of computer science and other disciplines.
