Graduate survey : The majority work as teachers and teach in the canton of Zurich
For the third time, PH Zurich conducted a survey of its graduates. The results show that the vast majority of graduates (84%) have a job after completing their studies. Most graduates (82%) work as teachers. In addition, around 10% are looking for a job and 7% are in a different life situation.
After graduation, about three quarters of graduates work as teachers with a workload of at least 70%, and about 40% with a workload of 90 to 100%. The majority of graduates received their desired workload (80%). Among the 20% who would have preferred a different workload, most would have preferred a higher one. With regard to the place of work, 85% of graduates teach in the canton of Zurich. Almost 20% of graduates who teach in the canton of Zurich after their studies come from another canton or from abroad.
On a year-on-year basis, the proportion of graduates with a post-graduate job increased slightly between 2021 and 2023 (79%; 81%; 84%), remaining at a high level. The same trend can be seen in the finding that most of them work as teachers after graduation (76%; 81%; 82%).
Good training and a central location
Looking back on their studies, 88% of graduates say that they would (most likely) choose the same course of study again. In retrospect, around three quarters would study again at PH Zurich or at the Unterstrass Institute. The reasons for this are the university’s central location and easy accessibility, as well as satisfaction with the education provided as a whole and with the wide range of courses offered.
Half of this year’s graduates (352) from PH Zurich and the Unterstrass Institute took part in the survey. The survey was conducted on several survey dates between January and August 2023.
